God’s Work
How does God want to use us for His service?
The Bible says that there are only two groups of people in this world…
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 1:18
The first group is the people who are lost without the Lord Jesus Christ and currently “perishing” , although they may not yet realize it . In contrast, the second group is those “which are saved”, these are the ones who have “believed on (trusted in) the Lord Jesus Christ” as their Savior and know that He has rescued them from the penalty of their sins.
God is certainly a people person, and His service involves both groups of people.
Service to the Perishing
Imagine for a moment that you are professional doctor. A regular patient came into the hospital for his annual checkup. The patient believes he is in great health, however, during one of the tests you see that this person (who feels perfectly fine) has stage 3 cancer! You are the only one who knows what the solution to this problem is. Maybe you don’t want to offend them or cause them additional stress. Maybe you just want them to believe that everything is perfectly fine and keep on with their life. Would it be loving of you to withhold that information from your patient? Absolutely not. That patient has a problem that needs to be dealt with immediately!
Would you believe me if I told you that the lost people of this world are in a far worse situation than the patient we spoke of above? The lost people in this world have absolutely no hope to pay for their sins apart from the perfect offering of Jesus Christ, the Bible says they are one breath away from an eternity spent in the lake of fire.
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 20:15
It is the responsibility of all saved believers to share the Gospel (Good News) with the lost ones in whatever capacity the Lord allows us to.
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach (proclaim) the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15
Service to the Saved
Immediately after a person trusts in the Lord Jesus Christ, God sends His Holy Spirit to indwell that person, this is called “regeneration”.
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”
Romans 8:9
This Holy Spirit will give at least one spiritual gift to each believer. This is to be used in a special way to glorify God and edify (build up) His saved ones.
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man (that is saved) to profit withal.”
1 Corinthians 12:7
Spiritual gifts are a very important subject to look into… we will soon provide resources to help you study these glorious truths for yourself.
You may be asking, what can I do now to serve God’s people? My advice is to find a local group of like minded believers that meet according to the Biblical pattern as revealed and taught in the epistles (letters) of the new testament. Two of the greatest daily services the believer enter into for God’s people are to read the Bible consistently (I suggest a King James Version or New King James Version), and pray for the believers that you gather with and the people that God has put in your life.
